Royal Stone & Tile in Los Angeles imports many lines of Italian porcelain tiles from Italy. One of these lines from Refin in Italy is the Batia Line. Baita was designed to pay homage to the traditional Stube, the rooms with wooden walls and oors typical of homes in the Alpine areas, inside which daily family life would take place. These traditional settings, which still play an important role today in homes and commercial premises in the mountains, are alluded to in the wood-like intertwined patterns that are the distinctive feature of this ceramic collection. The particular characteristic of Baita are the colour variants it comes in, with each one recalling a different stage in the life cycle of larch wood, which evolves over the years as it ages and is exposed to light. The colour range includes shades reminiscent of the freshly cut trunk (Fresh), the wood as it is used in natural settings (Natural) and the shades the essences take on when exposed to direct sunlight (Sun) or applied in shady areas (Shade).Concrete is among the most used material in today’s construction; it all started in the rst half of the XX century with the work of such visionary architects as Auguste Per-ret, Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright, Kenzo Tange and Alvar Aalto, whose contribu-tion paved the way to the architectural vague of the XX century. The most important member of this current, called Modernist movement, was La Corbusier, who gave rise to Brutalist architecture (from the French expression “Beton Brut”) and lifted this ma-terial to unprecedented prestige, e ectively turning it into a mass construction mate-rial. Concrete is versatile; it comes to life without any shape and because of it provides for countless formal options, from smooth nishes to rough surfaces, with a very diverse aesthetic. A careful research of the many characteristics of this material is the l rouge to our three solutions, Block, Mold and Plain; these three collections feature di erent characteristics brought together in the Master Plan. A broad range of di e-rent materials inspired by reinforced concrete in its modern version, an homage to the determined charm of industrial concrete.
