Formed under extreme pressure and heat, natural quartzite holds the translucence of marble with the durability of granite. Royal Stone imports each slab directly from quarries in Brazil and Verona — no two alike, every one chosen by hand.

A metamorphic stone of recrystallised quartz — harder than marble, less porous than granite, and quietly luminous. Direct sourcing from the quarry means colour, movement, and yield are decided in the slab itself, not the catalogue.

Marble’s look, granite’s spine

Quartzite is a natural metamorphic stone — sandstone recrystallized under pressure into an interlocking silica matrix. It carries the translucency and veining of marble with the hardness of granite, and it is not related to engineered quartz. Many clients arrive looking for Calacatta and leave with a Taj Mahal or Cristallo for exactly this reason.

What’s on the floor

Cristallo for backlit bars and vanities, Taj Mahal and Mont Blanc for white kitchens, Aria Blue and Costa Smeralda for statement islands and fireplaces. Standard gauge is 2cm; 3cm by request. Brazilian and Italian slabs run large enough for single-slab islands and bookmatched bath walls.

Where can I buy Taj Mahal quartzite slabs in Los Angeles?
Royal Stone carries Taj Mahal quartzite slabs at 2303 South Sepulveda Boulevard in Los Angeles. We hold both Selected and Super Taj grades in 2cm and 3cm, in honed and leathered finishes, with new shipments arriving regularly from Brazil. Trade and private clients can walk the inventory by appointment.
Is quartzite better than granite or marble for kitchens?
For Los Angeles kitchens, yes — quartzite is harder than marble (around 7 on the Mohs scale, comparable to granite), heat-tolerant, and significantly more stain- and etch-resistant than marble. It reads visually closer to natural marble than granite does, which is why we sell more quartzite for high-use kitchen countertops than any other natural stone.
What are the most popular quartzites you stock?
Taj Mahal and Super Taj Mahal remain our most-requested whites. Crystal White Supreme and Cristallo Vitrum Dual cover the brighter, more translucent end. For colour, Fusion Green, Patagonia, Costa Smeralda, and Arabesco Ceppo Taupe move quickly. Cristallo and Cristallo Brut deliver the most dramatic backlit applications.
Does quartzite need sealing?
Quartzite is dense and low-porosity, but most natural quartzites still benefit from a penetrating sealer applied at fabrication and refreshed every few years. We can advise on the right sealer for a specific slab and finish; honed and leathered surfaces typically require slightly different products than polished.
Can quartzite be backlit?
Yes — translucent quartzites such as Cristallo, Cristallo Brut, White Macaubas, and select cuts of Patagonia and Fusion can be backlit for islands, vanities, bar fronts and feature walls. The slab itself determines how light passes through; we test pieces under transmitted light on request before fabrication.
Do you deliver quartzite slabs across Southern California?
Yes. We deliver weekly to Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Santa Monica, the Hollywood Hills and Manhattan Beach, with regular runs to Newport Beach, Montecito and Santa Barbara. Slabs are crated and shipped farther afield on request.
