The translucent quartzite. Crystalline, glass-clear in passages, alive when backlit — the stone Antolini built a collection around, and the one our designers reach for when a bar or a vanity should glow.

Cristallo Vitrum Dual — Polished

On Cristallo

No. 02.2

Quarried in Brazil. Curated through the Antolini Cristallo collection in Verona before shipment.

Cristallo is the rarest member of the quartzite family — a stone whose recrystallized silica passages run effectively translucent. Lit from behind, the veins read as drawing on glass; under daylight the slab pulls warm or cool depending on its mineral content. No engineered material reproduces this.

The collection includes White Cristallo for the cleanest, palest fields; Cristallo Vitrum Dual for dramatic two-tone backlit installations; Cristallo Brut Champagne for warm champagne tonality; Diamond Rutile for gold-needle inclusions; Rosa for a true blush; Roots for cocoa root-veining; and the Cobalt, Tiffany Jade and Emerald lots for the rare saturated colours. See the full field guide to every Cristallo type. Stocked in 2cm; 3cm by special order.

Backlit applications — bar tops, vanity tops, pendant fixtures, kitchen islands lit from below — are where Cristallo earns its name. Polished saturates the crystals; honed quiets the surface for working counters. We’ll pull a slab and light it for you in the yard.

Common Questions

Cristallo
questions, answered.

What is Cristallo quartzite?
Cristallo is a rare, translucent Brazilian quartzite made largely of crystalline quartz. Its glassy, gemstone-like body can be backlit, and it ranges from icy whites to dramatic Cristallo Vitrum and Dual lots with amber and smoke veining.
Is Cristallo quartzite durable?
Yes. As a true quartzite it rates around 7 on the Mohs scale — harder than granite and far more scratch- and etch-resistant than marble. Sealed and maintained, it stands up well to kitchen use despite its delicate appearance.
Can Cristallo quartzite be backlit?
Cristallo is one of the best stones for backlighting. Its translucent crystalline body glows when lit from behind, making it a favorite for illuminated islands, bar backs, and feature walls. Royal Stone can help spec the right lot for a backlit installation.
Cristallo or Taj Mahal — which should I choose?
Both are premium white quartzites. Taj Mahal reads as a warm, marble-like white for everyday surfaces, while Cristallo is more translucent and dramatic, ideal where you want movement or backlighting. See our Taj Mahal vs. Cristallo comparison for a full decision guide.
