Gabana is a Brazilian quartzite quarried for its layered field — cool gray banding alternating with paler bands, crossed by occasional white and warm gold vein work. The structure reads horizontally; at scale, the slab looks closer to a sedimentary cut than to the chaotic vein patterns of the more dramatic quartzites.
“Quartzite hardness gives Gabana the practical advantage over a marble at the same color — resistant to etching, heat, and daily wear, so it holds up in kitchens and outdoor applications where marble doesn't.”
Quartzite hardness gives Gabana the practical advantage over a marble at the same color — resistant to etching, heat, and daily wear, so it holds up in kitchens and outdoor applications where marble doesn't. It takes both honed and polished cleanly; honed reads quieter and more current.
Currently in the yard at Royal Stone. Banded quartzites benefit from being walked in person — the rhythm of the bands varies across the slab and matters for how the material lays out on a kitchen island or a continuous wall. Stop by to see the run before specifying.
