Hard Rock is one of Antolini's mechanical finishes — a sculpted treatment that cuts deep, irregular texture into the slab face without compromising the body of the stone. It sits in the same family as the Stratos and Petra finishes, but with more relief: closer to a chiseled wall than to a leather or a leathered surface.
“Powder room walls, fireplace surrounds, accent panels behind a sink or a tub — anywhere the play of light across the texture becomes the design itself.”
It belongs on vertical work. Powder room walls, fireplace surrounds, accent panels behind a sink or a tub — anywhere the play of light across the texture becomes the design itself. We've seen it specified on Patagonia Aqua Green Cristallo and similar crystalline quartzites where the depth of the cut catches color through the slab. On countertops it doesn't make sense.
Lighting design matters: graze it from the side and the relief reads sculptural; light it flat from the front and it goes inert. Come to the yard and we'll set a light against a Hard Rock sample so you can read the surface before you commit it to a wall.
