Quartzite is metamorphosed sandstone — crystals fused so tightly that light passes through the slab where the mineral runs thin. Translucency varies block to block. Cristallo Bianco, Patagonia, and the Tiffany Jade cuts read clearest; denser darker quartzites barely glow at all. We grade for translucency in the yard by lifting a work light behind the slab before it leaves.

Vertical applications take it best: bar fronts, powder room walls, the back of a kitchen island. Horizontal counters wash out under daylight and are rarely worth the wiring.
